What a request actually looks like

Instead of typing that into a search site, opening twenty listings, comparing them yourself and then doing it all again next weekend, you enter it once.

1. Tell us what you're looking for. A specific model or just a body style, budget, year range, kilometres, fuel, transmission, features you need, features you'd like, and anything you want to avoid.
2. Participating dealers can respond. Your request goes to appropriate participating dealers. If a dealer has something suitable on the ground, they can propose that actual vehicle.
3. AutoMatch sorts through what's offered. Every proposal is assessed against the requirements you gave us — not against a generic idea of a good car.
4. You get the strongest eligible matches. You see the best of what came back, and you decide which dealer, if any, you want to talk to.

Searching isn't always comparing apples with apples

"AutoMatch saves you time" is easy to say. Here's the part that actually eats the time.

Which is the better buy? It depends entirely on what you asked for. Working that out means holding all of this in your head at once:

• advertised price versus drive-away price
• on-road costs included or excluded
• different trim and specification levels wearing the same badge
• newer versus lower kilometres
• price versus age
• features already fitted versus features you'd have to add later
• warranty differences, where they apply

A cheaper car isn't automatically the better match. Neither is a newer one, or a lower-kilometre one. AutoMatch assesses those trade-offs against the request you submitted. It isn't valuing the vehicle, and it isn't claiming to know the objectively best car in New Zealand — it's identifying the strongest proposals for *your* requirements.

Not everything matters equally

A list of filters doesn't always capture how much each thing matters to you.

• Need 4WD? Say so. Don't want 4WD? Say that instead — plenty of people specifically don't.
• Reversing camera absolutely essential, heated seats merely nice? Those get treated differently.
• Prefer blue, would happily take grey, really don't want silver? Tell us, and it counts.

You're not writing a wishlist that gets ignored. The difference between "must have" and "would be nice" is the difference between a match that works and one that technically fits.

Don't know the exact car? That's fine.

You don't need to arrive with a make, model and trim level. Plenty of people know they want an SUV, know roughly what they can spend, and haven't settled on the badge.

Tell us what you do know — body style, budget, rough age, kilometres, fuel, transmission, the features that matter, the things you want to avoid — and leave the rest open where you genuinely don't mind.

Why not just search the listings?

Because classifieds are genuinely good at what they do: showing you what's advertised right now. Filters will get thousands of vehicles down to a manageable handful.

The catch is that you're still the one doing the work — applying filters, opening listings, checking specs, comparing prices and kilometres, deciding what matters, then coming back and repeating it when nothing quite fit. A better filter still leaves you doing the filtering.

AutoMatch works the other way around. You describe what you want, dealers respond with actual vehicles, and the comparing happens before it reaches you. It doesn't replace browsing the listings — it just means you don't have to.

Will every dealer start calling me?

No.

Submitting an AutoMatch request doesn't hand your phone number to a room full of dealers. Dealers receive the request and can propose vehicles against it without receiving your personal contact details.

You see the matches. You pick the one worth a conversation. Your details are only used at that point, when you've decided.

Is AutoMatch free for buyers?

Yes. There's no charge to submit a request and no charge to receive your results.

So is AutoMatch an AI car search?

Technology helps — reading vehicle information, comparing proposals, weighing them against what you asked for. That part is real and it's useful.

But asking an AI for cars and getting another list back doesn't remove much of the work. If AI gives you another 30 cars to look through, you're still looking through 30 cars.

The useful part here isn't the technology. It's that real dealers respond to a real request with vehicles they actually have, and the sorting happens before you see it. You still make the call.

What if nothing suitable comes back?

Then we say so.

Not every request produces a strong match. Stock moves, and sometimes what you're after simply isn't sitting on a forecourt this month. We'd rather tell you that than push a vehicle at you that doesn't do what you asked for — a near-miss dressed up as a match wastes your Saturday, not ours.

You know what matters to you. You shouldn't need to know every car that's for sale.
